Progression of TV Technologies—Infographic

TV technology has been excellent throughout the years. Thanks to the people who invested their time, energy, and resources to develop display technology that evolved from the bulky boxes to the flat-screen panels that we now enjoy, a colorful and life-like television experience was made possible. The computer monitors in Cork are very likely to have the same journey as the humble beginnings of the television. Here’s a little trip down memory lane to honor the brilliant minds behind the display technologies that most people now enjoy.

CRT Technology

Initially, people enjoyed the black and white television as it was the only available type of TV in the market. But as years progressed, so does technology. In 1897, German physicist Ferdinand Braun invented Cathode Ray Tube or CRT that functioned using three electron beams that represented three colors – red, green, and blue that produced different colors as seen on TV screens.

LED Displays

In 1907, electroluminescence was discovered by British radio researcher Henry Joseph Round. The said discovery is described as a natural phenomenon where light does not create heat. This discovery laid the foundation for Nick Holonyack’s first light LED or Light Emitting Diode. Today, LEDs are used as a backlight source for displays that allow light to be dimmable if necessary, and computer monitors in Waterford have this feature.

LCD Displays

LCD or Liquid Crystal Display was birthed around the 1960s. But before it made its way as an entertainment screen, it was first used in the invention of the first modern LCD watch in 1972 by James Fergason. LCD tech uses the properties of liquid crystals to lighten. This type of display technology that blocks light rather than emits it. It is a gem to people who wants to save more money while using their LCD TVs because it uses less electricity.
